More and more we are starting to realize that journalism isn’t about producing a product – but performing a service.

You be the editor: Help assign me a story
|
Ever had a really good idea for a science news story, but lacked the time or resources to pursue it?
The concept for this isn’t entirely original as my digital-journalism colleague David Cohn will soon launch a similar plan with spot.us, and won a nice grant to do so. We thought we might try something similar here.
During the next week I’m going to solicit story ideas from readers for untold science-related stories. While I appreciate your suggestions about an expose on Kauai’s beaches being too sandy, I’m afraid my editors say the story should have a strong Texas angle.
Anyway, after collecting your great ideas we’re going to select several of them and conduct a reader poll right here. We’ll also throw in several ideas from my editors.
We’ll look at the stories you’ve voted on, and the discussion that ensues in the comments, and use both to help us decide which story — or stories — I’ll do.
