Site Map and Caricature for Spot Us
[slideshare id=530280&doc=spotussitemapcaricatures-1217194160933801-9&w=425]
Above is a slideshare of the back and forth between Spot Us and our wonderful designers. I realize the slides are a little small. If you are super interested – you can download and view this as a full PDF here.
When looking at the slides, make a note of what stage we are at: These are “caricatures” of the site. There is obviously no branding in place and some of the characteristics need to be defined more. The analogy I use: This is a 30,000 foot view. When you are flying into a city and look down you might be able to see the highways where people commute in mass, but that doesn’t mean you understand the layout of the city.
The yellow marks are actually my notes sent back to the designers.
So – we continue to move forward.

Thanks for posting that, Dave. It’s always great to see the process behind interface design, and the approach you’re taking (30,000ft view, ‘caricatures’) seems to let you focus on goals and flow rather than visual design decisions that can be made later. Look forward to seeing the design evolve, hope you keep posting these ‘in-progress’ posts.
[...] I’m leaving Chicago, physically tired but mentally invigorated. 1. I was inspired by the loft and good natured vibe of Knight’s mission. 2. Took time to rethink my personal blogging motivation and experience. 3. Worked more on pushing spot.us into existence. (latest design work here). [...]
Looks good, can’t wait to see the final design. And I agree with Mike, having someone share the process is always very interesting.
